My friend Gretchen started an online pet store and asked me to design the logo. The concept was a trendy “posh” boutique with a focus on eco-friendly, cruelty free, organic and all natural products. In the scope of a million dog stores, it was difficult to define a unique look. However, I think I achieved an elegant simplicity that is able to stand out above the rest.

This is a series of fliers for my friend's roller races. His initial request was to stay away from a steampunk feel, but with a name like Gastown, who could resist? I showed him a sketch of the steambot and he fell in love. The mascot makes a few more appearances in later fliers, but ultimately more sex appeal was required.

I really like the idea of glitch as art. Purposely rendering computer errors can be a beautiful thing. Let me know how you think this series turned out.

Alane is my wife and was a musical performance major at the University of Oregon. I made the posters for her junior and senior recitals.
I didn't have much time when making the poster for her junior recital, so I focused more on color and composition instead of technical drawing skill. I'm really happy with this constraint and I think it turned out great! Later I used the design to make a quick website for her clarinet lessons.
The senior recital poster was more challenging and time consuming. I tried many new painting techniques, the most difficult of which was abandoning line art beneath the painting. I also used Photoshop's new 3D brushes and a 3D cylinder rendering for the bore of the clarinet.
